Ingredients

  • 6.00 l arge ripe tomatoes , peeled and diced
  • 1.00 onion , diced
  • 2.00 stalks celery , diced
  • 3.00 tbsp butter
  • 2.00 tbsp sugar
  • 1.00 tsp salt
  • 0.50 tsp black pepper
  • 0.50 tsp basil
  • 4.00 slice white bread , cubed optional

Instructions

    To peel tomatoes, score with an X and dip in boiling water 30 seconds then peel.

    Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.

    Sauté onion and celery until softened.

    Add tomatoes, sugar, salt, pepper, and basil.

    Simmer 20-25 minutes until tomatoes break down.

    Add bread cubes to thicken if desired.
