Apple Stack Cake
Thin spiced cake layers stacked with dried apple filling.
Ingredients
- 3.00 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.50 cup sugar
- 1.00 tsp baking powder
- 1.00 tsp baking soda
- 0.50 tsp salt
- 0.50 cup butter
- 0.50 cup buttermilk
- 1.00 egg
- 0.25 cup sorghum syrup
- filling: 3 cups dried apples , 1 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp allspice, water to cover
Instructions

Make filling by simmering dried apples with water, brown sugar, cinnamon, and allspice until very soft.

Cool and mash.

Make cake dough by cutting butter into flour mixture then adding buttermilk, egg, and sorghum.

Divide into 6 portions.

Roll each thin and bake on greased pans at 350°F for 10-12 minutes.

Stack layers with filling between each.

Wrap tightly and let sit overnight — the layers absorb the filling and become moist.
