Southern Grits
Creamy stone-ground grits cooked slow with butter and salt.
Ingredients
- 1.00 cup stone-ground grits
- 4.00 cup water
- 1.00 tsp salt
- 3.00 tbsp butter
- 0.50 cup cheddar cheese
- salt and pepper
Instructions

Bring water and salt to a boil in a medium saucepan.

Slowly whisk in grits to prevent lumps.

Reduce heat to low.

Cook covered, stirring frequently, for 25-30 minutes until grits are thick and tender.

Stir in butter and cheese if using.

Season with salt and pepper.

Add more water if grits become too thick.
