Smothered Chicken
Tender chicken braised in a rich onion and mushroom gravy — soul food at its best.
Ingredients
- 4.00 bone-in chicken pieces
- 0.50 cup all-purpose flour
- salt , pepper, and garlic powder
- 3.00 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1.00 l arge onion , sliced
- 2.00 cup chicken broth
- 0.50 cup sour cream
- 1.00 tsp thyme
Instructions

Season chicken with salt, pepper, and garlic powder then dust with flour.

Brown in hot oil 5 minutes per side.

Remove and set aside.

Sauté sliced onion in same pan until golden, about 10 minutes.

Return chicken to pan.

Pour in broth and add thyme.

Cover and simmer 40-45 minutes until chicken is very tender.

Remove chicken and stir sour cream into gravy.

Return chicken to pan.

Serve with mashed potatoes.
