Ingredients

  • 2.00 cup dried pinto beans
  • 1.00 ham hock
  • 1.00 onion , diced
  • water to cover
  • salt and pepper
  • cornbread and raw onion

Instructions

    Soak beans overnight and drain.

    Place beans, ham hock, and onion in a large pot.

    Cover with water by 2 inches.

  4. 4

    Bring to a boil then reduce heat.

  5. 5

    Simmer 2 1/2 to 3 hours until beans are very soft and creamy.

    Remove ham hock and pull off meat.

  7. 7

    Return meat to pot.

    Season with salt and pepper.

    Serve with cornbread and sliced raw onion.
