Southern Fried Chicken
Classic buttermilk fried chicken with a crispy seasoned crust — just like Mama made.
Ingredients
- 3.00 lb chicken pieces
- 2.00 cup buttermilk
- 2.00 cup all-purpose flour
- 2.00 tsp garlic powder
- 2.00 tsp paprika
- 1.00 tsp onion powder
- 1.00 tsp cayenne pepper
- 2.00 tsp salt
- 1.00 tsp black pepper
- vegetable oil for frying
Instructions

Marinate chicken in buttermilk at least 4 hours or overnight.

Mix flour with all spices.

Remove chicken from buttermilk and dredge in seasoned flour.

Let rest on a rack 10 minutes.

Heat oil to 350°F in a cast iron skillet.

Fry chicken 15-18 minutes turning occasionally until golden brown and cooked through to 165°F.

Dark meat takes longer than white.

Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
