Ingredients

  • 2.00 cup dried pinto beans
  • 1.00 ham hock
  • 1.00 onion , diced
  • 4.00 cup loves garlic , minced
  • 8.00 cup water
  • 1.00 tsp cumin
  • salt and pepper
  • hot sauce

Instructions

    Soak pinto beans overnight and drain.

  2. 2

    Combine beans, ham hock, onion, garlic, water, and cumin in a large pot.

  3. 3

    Bring to a boil then reduce heat.

  4. 4

    Simmer 2 to 2 1/2 hours until beans are very tender.

  5. 5

    Remove ham hock and shred any meat back into beans.

  6. 6

    Season generously with salt and pepper.

  7. 7

    Mash some beans against the side of pot to thicken.

  8. 8

    Serve with cornbread and hot sauce.
